What Are You Doing In That Box?

“When you open to possibility, possibility enters. When you open to YOU, YOU enter.”
– from a meditation on the morning of 2/21/10

I met Lisa Nichols yesterday afternoon. If you don’t know who she is, I highly recommend that you find out (you could start with The Secret or Lisa’s book No Matter What), check out her inspirational story and get into one of her transformational workshops or other events ASAP.

Lisa knocked my socks off when she spoke at Sacred Center NY. I was so impressed I stayed for her 2-hour workshop after the service. By the end of that I was a devotee, so when she asked us to continue the conversation at her hotel room I practically offered to carry her there on my back.

The main thing I took away from that meeting, besides a new business and new business partners – which I’ll share more about soon so that you can share the wealth, was (yet again) “Get Out of The Box!”

“When you limit your self based on beliefs and stories from the past, you take a back seat in your own life.

All of the could haves, should haves, and would haves don’t matter today, right here and NOW. Once you move beyond the shelter of what was, you’ll find that what is and what can be is far more exciting and often more comfortable and prosperous. Love the stories and know that you can leave them behind. You will be just fine without them!

Where in your life are you being quiet and small? What do you want for your self? What kind of life do you dream of living? When will you start living it?

Are you willing to take a chance and jump out of the box once and for all?”

Today’s Powerful and Positive Affirmation is:
“I am in the process of growing the life of my dreams. I have all that I need, all of the time. All is well.”

Big thanks today to Lisa Nichols, Sacred Center NY, Greg Halpen and his Profound Visibility commitment/teachings, NYC libraries, the McBurney YMCA, my breath and body, sugar-free days and nights, sexy men and women who love their bodies, my book agent, editor and publisher, Mondays, and the excitement that new awareness brings.

Thanks and peace to all!

What Do You Expect?

The New York City subway system is one of my greatest teachers.

The other night I was waiting for the #3 train to take me from 14th St. to my stop uptown in Harlem. The #3 is an express train and on a good night I can make it uptown in less than 30 minutes. Alas, this was not a ‘good’ night – all express and local trains were switched to the local track.

“Well,” I thought angrily, “now it’s going to take me longer to get home than I expected, and I’ve got to pack my bag and prepare my lunch for tomorrow. This sucks. I probably won’t get to bed until 1am.”

As the subway moved slowly uptown I became more irritated. “This train should be moving faster!”

At 23rd St., 34th St., Times Square and several other stops the train was delayed and sat motionless with the doors open. “Those doors should be closing now,” I said aloud.

“Really?” answered my voice in my head. “Should the train really be doing anything but what it’s doing now? You could get up and go to another subway line, take a bus or a cab, or even walk home. What you are doing now is painful.”

I took a deep breath and sat up, long and tall, in my seat. I had been leaning, knees on thighs, shoulders hunched and forward with my head in my hands, rubbing my furrowed brow. I looked at the clock on my Blackberry. I had been lost in stressful thoughts about the train (and a few other things that my negative thinking dug up) for nearly 30 minutes and my body was showing me what happens when my mind takes a stroll into the land of expectation.

“If you think you can lead a happy life by going through your days with a list of expectations, please think again.

There is nothing that is guaranteed to go exactly as you think it should.

‘My kids should behave.’ ‘My husband should keep the bathroom clean.’ ‘The trains should be on time.’ ‘Everyone should be happy.’

Those ‘shoulds’ can lead to disappointment, frustration and anger.

What if you just let things be? Or, ask that things be done or kept a certain way without expecting that they will.

Release your self from the nightmarish grip of expectation and you will find that your ride home is always pleasant and that your heart is filled with gratitude for the way things are. What else is there but what is?” – At One

What expectations are you harboring?

Today’s Powerful and Positive Affirmation is:
“I am open to experiencing everything as it is.”

Thanks go out to Jean at Nurture’s Path for giving me an opportunity to see and say what I’m good at, clients who teach me valuable lessons, a sweaty Spin class, friendly bank tellers, Sound Circle participants who fill the room with sounds of love, waking up to the sun, new and prosperous business, my book agent, editor and publisher, Narrativ Inc., and a chocolate-free day.

Thanks and peace to all.

You Irritate the S— Out of Me!

Life is fascinating.

I went to the Cosi café on 13th St. and Broadway on Monday afternoon to have some tea and write about allowing and accepting. As I waited for my computer to boot up I heard a woman sitting near me say to her male companion, “Do you have to say that? You irritate the shit out of me.” Perfect fodder for my blog, I thought.

When I logged on to Cosi’s free internet service, I saw the slogan ‘Cosi: Life Should Be Delicious.’ Hmm… How can life be delicious when we are irritated by the behavior of another?

“When you say that someone is irritating you, you are certainly not allowing them or your self to enjoy what is. A more honest and responsible way to express that would be, ‘I see that I am not happy right now because my thoughts about what you said are irritating me.’

When you identify the source of your irritation, anger, sadness, jealousy, resentment, or fear you can instantly loosen the grip that YOUR THOUGHTS have on you. Yes, it is ultimately your thoughts about any situation that lead to negative feelings and sometimes actions (and words) that cause you to look away from the infinite beauty and excitement of any moment.” – At One

My friend Eduardo is a great teacher. Last year he told me that his goal in life was to be happy. I see that happiness keeps finding him. He holds the intention of happiness and it shows up. Perfect and easy (if you let it be).

We are what we think. What we focus on grows. That’s the Law of Attraction and Manifestation. How is it working for you?

Today’s Powerful and Positive Affirmation is:
“I allow All That Is to be All That Is.”

My thanks go out today to Sunday’s powerful At One Alliance; a pleasurable, love-filled Valentine’s Weekend; coziness at Cosi; the NY Shamanic Circle; the world wide web; sunny days; an abundance of new and prosperous business, my book agent, editor and publisher; chocolate; a clear mind and open heart.

Thanks and peace to all!

Naming What You Love

The title of today’s post was inspired by a chapter in the book Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy by Sarah Ban Breathnach. Simple Abundance is filled with “quotes, poems, meditations and practical exercises for every day of a woman’s year.” Don’t worry guys, there is version for you titled A Man’s Journey to Simple Abundance. (Why do I have the ladies version? Simple: I liked the quotes and my friend Robin was giving the book away. Thanks Robin! BTW, for years I had a copy of the book Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom by Dr. Christiane Northrup. Don’t be afraid to learn about women, gentlemen.)

Back to Simple Abundance. In the chapter that I happened upon this morning (in my search for a love topic), Breathnach invites the reader to ask the question “What is it that I truly love?”, and states, “The only opinion that counts from now on is your own.”

On Sunday I was working with a group of men at the monthly NYC Easton Mountain gathering and asked them to tell five other men in the room what they were passionate about. I invited them to name five passions. “I am passionate about my dogs.” “I am passionate about teaching.” “I am passionate about sex,” came the responses. It was easy for some to rattle off five passions and challenging for others.

“Telling your self and others what excites you and what inspires you is one way to attract more of that into your life. Knowing what you love brings self-awareness and enlightenment to all areas of your life. You could even begin to ask your self ‘What more can I open myself to knowing and loving?’ That attitude will attract peace of mind and peace of heart.” – At One

What, or who, do you love? Can you – dare you – name it?

Here are five things that I love:

1) Naps on the couch
2) The ocean after a storm
3) Staying up all night to finish reading a book
4) Laughing with friends
5) Sharing inspirational messages

(I could also add chocolate, sex, my family, working from home, traveling to foreign countries, meditation…)

Today’s Powerful and Positive Affirmation is:
“I love what I love.”

A big, loving gratitude wave goes out to Google, my clients, my cat, my home, the sun, my budding weather expert and friend Holly, all who pay me to facilitate Law of Attraction and Shamanism workshops, my home at the beach, my breath and body, NYC and the MTA.

Thanks and peace to all!

A Law of Attraction & Manifestation Reminder

“As you remember your deep connection to ALL THINGS, we guarantee that your ability to manifest what you want will become more and more apparent to you – as it has been.

As your ability to SEE the Law of Attraction and Manifestation in a positive way in your own life grows, you will surely have more respect, more compassion, and more love for others.

You are now where you are. You are in the perfect place for everything to manifest. Use your brilliant mind to create more of what you want. Focus on that. See your self living the life of your dreams. Do not censor it. Your imagination can empower and heal you. BE OPEN to what is and what can be. BE IN LOVE with all of it. It is a part of YOU. That is good news!” – From a meditation on Feb. 7, 2010.

Today’s Powerful and Positive Affirmation:
“The world around me reflects my thoughts. I am open to knowing my self all ways.”

A shower of gratitude to Robin Coley, Holly, Fred, NY Sports Club, my strong will, my couch, those who reflect the power of doing what they love, a snow-free city, my laptop, my breath and body, and Yogi Tea’s Throat Comfort.

Thanks and peace to all!

Why Wait Until Friday?

It’s Friday again, which seems to be a cause for celebration for many people. And why not? Their weekday routine is ending and maybe there will be some excitement, something different (like Sunday’s Super Bowl) to look forward to.

“I’m really looking forward to Friday!”

“Can’t wait until Friday!”

“Thank God it’s Friday!”

What if we applied that same enthusiasm to Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and even Saturday and Sunday?

“Imagine saving all of your excitement, all of your positive thoughts, all of your enthusiasm for one day of the week. What if you were to spread that joy around, to give as much value to the other days, to hold Tuesday in as much esteem as you do Friday? What is the difference, really, between those days?

Reclaim the EVERYDAY joy that can be found wherever you are. Whenever you choose to acknowledge it, joy shows up. It’s that easy. Seek and you shall find. Look for ways to make every day a special day.

What are you waiting for?”

Amen.

Today’s Powerful and Positive Affirmation is:
“I live my life to the fullest every day and in every way. I choose joy.”

Today I give thanks to my clear and concise vision, to Bob and Ancil at the McBureny YMCA for the inspiration for today’s post, home cooked meals, Bank of America, financial freedom, my home at the beach, my book agent, editor and publisher, the presence of ‘the grandmothers’, Jill Anderson at http://www.JillLynnDesign.com, the alignment of art with business (for fun and profit!).

Please note: The ‘Friday’ image above comes from the blog/web site Life Organizer.

Thanks and peace to all.

What Are You Whining About?

The way we ask for or talk about something can have a great impact on the way it ultimately appears (or does not appear) in our lives. Are you a whiner or a commander/allower?

“Whenever you make a request for something, the Universe all ways responds. It doesn’t matter what the thing is. The Universe doesn’t judge the size, shape or cost of your request, it just provides you with the means with which to manifest it.

The Law of Attraction or Manifestation says that what you focus on grows, your thoughts are things that appear or disappear according to the attention you give them.

If you whine about something that is not showing up in your life, then chances are that it will continue to not show up. If you say in your whiny voice, “I really want that, but…” and the underlying conviction is that you are unworthy or undeserving, than guess what happens? It doesn’t come, and if it does, you are likely to miss it because you are focused on it not being there.

Pay attention to how you are thinking and talking about what you want. Use your mind to empower you, to command the results that you desire, to allow the most pleasant events to unfold with great ease.

Focus on the mess and there will be more mess. Focus on the gold and you will find rainbow after rainbow after rainbow on your path.

Like attracts like. What are you like?”

Amen!

Tuesday’s Positive and Powerful Affirmation is:
“I allow my dreams to unfold in the most abundantly beautiful and empowering ways. All is well.”

Today I express my gratitude to the wise trees, the waters, the wind, the sun, moon and stars, the New York Shamanic Circle, my home at the beach, my feet and hands that take me where I want to go and open the doors, my breath, my open-mindedness, my book agent, editor and publisher, new and prosperous business opportunities, friends and family.

Thanks and peace to all!
